Locked Tight
In this piece, I recreated a set of rusting keys, made to scratch each other with each wear. Framing not just the concept of keys, but an active process of decay, as honorable. Something to be proud of. Six keys of various sizes sit in the center, supported by a chain made of recreated keyrings and closed by a small lock. A lock that once belonged to a child. Locked Tight Is a representation of entrapment, particularly that which stems from the class divide. To show different generations affected by wealth inequality. Each key is at a separate degree of wear and held together by a lock and key, from a child’s diary. If a rusty key—if a lower class person—is not seen as worthy of luxury, me using such iconography is inherently a subversion.
